Eagles have very long legs

Hello from Whidbey Island, WA

Yes, you have to take an actual boat to vist us. We are surrounded by fish and whales. Its WILD. Also bald eagles….did you know how long their legs are?! I didnt!! But they are like the crows of the Island so we see them daily. Also they are NOT small.

Anyhoo….Welcome to the very first Yon Bureau Newsletter, which feels a little like inviting you over before we've even finished unpacking. So, welcome. Come on in. Don’t mind the boxes.

Here's the short version: my family and I moved Oak Harbor, which is North Whideby Island, in February, and by May 8th, Yon Bureau was officially open. In between those two dates was a whole lot of unpacking and re-packing, a whole lot of "wait, where did we put that," and a ton of meeting new friends and falling in love with a new community we're still getting to know. It's been a whirlwind, and we're not slowing down anytime soon.

Right now

Living somewhere surrounded by water has a way of rearranging your senses. Lately we (We = Kimberlee….my Oak Harbor Bestie/Business Partner/Next Door Neighbor that I met on Facebook lol) can't stop thinking about the sea…primarily because we see it every day…so we are reaching for natural fibers, novelty (always), nautical adjacent…and that specific kind of comfort that still looks put-together or sick as hell. We're drawn to pieces that play with contrast,  a sharply masculine silhouette next to something softly feminine, sturdy fabrics with delicate details. It turns out that when your surroundings change, your eye does too, and honestly? We're enjoying watching our own style morph right along with the shop's. May we never stop evolving and being inspired by history and fabric.

What's next

Fall is creeping up on us (in the best way), so we're deep in the middle of pulling together fall pieces for the shop and putting our last bits and bats of summer selections on sale or away for another time. Not to mention we are already thinking about winter prep, but we're sincerely taking it one season at a time (primarily because our shop is tiny). When you live in the town “Practical Magic” was filmed….you take spooky season seriously. So get ready for some 90s black lace and whimsical goth girl energy as well.

We will continue to inject the shop with our own weird fashion poetry and obsessions….I (Sara) recently had a visceral reaction to a Rainforest Cafe Crewneck and the flood of memories and the joy of the piece forced me to add it to my cart like a psycho…looking over my shoulder to make sure nobody else got it before me. Kimberlee is the prettiest Tomboy there is and loves thinking about Aliens…so who even knows where this will take us.

New town, new shop, old clothes, big plans. More to come….
